The Episcopal Church offers worship in the Green Zone every day of COP21. A group of us puts up the Eco-Tabernacle and uses chant, silence, the Daily Prayer Cards on Spiritual Sustainability and prayer to bring our faith into this very lively area. Below is the first Sustainability Prayer Card on Compassion. The Sustainability Prayer Cards are organized into four areas: Reverence, Compassion, Forgiveness, and Reconciliation.
After reading the meditation on the prayer card we stand in silence for a few minutes, holding the question: How has this spiritual value promoted sustainability in my life? Then we share brief reflections.
Witness and protest also happen in the Green Zone, every day. Yesterday, while we shared lunch after worship, a haunting, somber strain of music moved towards us, coming up the walkway that goes around the central area of the Green Zone. Soon a funeral procession came into view. On the catafalque was an ice sculpture. Immediately I saw it was a funeral for a glacier. Indigenous people of Central America played music while mourners carried flowers. You can watch a clip of the Funeral Procession for a Glacier below.
